Facebook Marketing Study Suggests that Content is King Over Paid Advertising
Social media strategist and online news and content agency Brafton recently issued a Facebook marketing report suggesting that sharing unique and original content via Facebook may beat out paid advertising on the site for traffic generating purposes. We’ve seen a major shift on Facebook recently to a more content focused model, so it’s no big surprise that the numbers are pointing to a “content is King” approach as perhaps being the better path for network marketers to follow as we seek to connect, prospect, and sponsor using Facebook marketing.
Facebook Marketing – Why Content May Beat Out Paid Ads
According to Brafton’s report, and as confirmed via studies by both the Associated Press and CNBC, an average of 83 percent of Facebook users “hardly ever or never” click on paid ads. What these two studies may show us is that the role Facebook presently plays in Americans’ lives remains content and sharing ‘centric.’ No big shock there, as we’re very aware that Facebook users – even network marketers on Facebook – are still largely using the site to connect socially – not to do business. While millions of people log into Facebook every day, very few of these individuals are paying attention to, much less clicking on the paid advertisements served up to them. As network marketing professionals using Facebook marketing as part of our business strategy, we might want to focus a little more on creating content and sharing as an active “add on” to our paid or sponsored Facebook ads to yield greater benefits.
While compelling users to click on paid or sponsored ads might be a challenge, the fact is that some will. It’s a numbers game. Facebook recently reported that its site has swelled to more than 900 million users. Even at the current reported trend of users “not” clicking on paid ads, it still pays to keep paid ads in your tool kit. Remember, we’re really marketing to those who already have the inclination to start up as network marketers as well as those who are already promoting network marketing companies.
For those users who are ignoring paid ads, we just need to remember that they are still extremely active with the site’s content. How active? Well, in its filing to the Securities and Exchange Commission, Facebook said it generates more than 3.2 billion Likes and comments by users every day.
