Recruiting Professionals Into Your MLM

Recruiting Professionals MLMI participated in a great Recruiting Mastery call with Ray Higdon his evening, where he was kind enough to answer a question I posted to him earlier in the day.

My question was this:  ”What’s your #1 tip for people who want to recruit professionals into their MLM?”  Ray’s Answer was great.  He said in order to recruit professionals into your MLM, you need to BE a professional.

Now, I know what you’re thinking.  ”Kevin, I am a professional.  I’m an active member of my network marketing opportunity, I recruit prospects, I host meetings at my home, and I even deduct expenses from my home-based business on my taxes!’   These are all truly marks of a professional businessperson. But the point Ray made went way beyond these critical yet fairly rudimentary steps.

What I believe he meant was that we need to embed ourselves into the culture of the professionals circles from which we want to recruit.   The idea here is to understand their needs and be able to address a few of their frustrations from a “native level” of understanding.

Ray Higdon gave a great example of how to recruit professionals into your MLM, and I’ll share it here…

Say you want to start recruiting Realtors into your MLM, but you don’t really know much about their pain points – what their needs are beyond wanting to make money in real estate.

The thing to do is to make a list of Realtors in your area who you know and who know you.  Don’t know any? Get an introduction from a friend, see who they’ve used to buy or sell their home.  Whatever – just get some names down for Realtors you know are active in the community and may have some leverage in terms of their sphere of influence.

Once you get you list of 5 to 10 Realtors made, start calling them to set up informational meetings.  Notice I said informational.  You’re not looking – at least overtly – to recruit this folks into your primary opportunity.  The idea here is that you want to put it in your mind that you are strictly talking to these real estate professionals in order to gain “intel” on what frustrations their colleagues may be facing.

Recruiting Professionals Into Your MLM – The Process

In essence, you’re using the leapfrogging technique Ray talks about to explain to the Realtor that those in her/his line of work do really well in your opportunity. At minimum, you’re going to get some great intel from this meeting.  Maybe you’ll learn that there is some regulatory event that just took place that is limiting Realtor commissions.  That’s a pain point you can use when you crank up your recruitment process!

Just be there to really listen.  You’re bound to come away with some good stuff to use in future recruiting efforts.  When the meeting’s over, thank your contact and move on.  Now… here’s something cool that may happen…

There is also a real chance that as you hold a few of these professional info sessions, one of the professionals to whom you are speaking will realize you’re building a business and that you did not ask them to join in!  At this point, she may say “hey – I’m interested in earning some side income! What about me?”

If this last part happens, great.  But remember, you’re not meeting with these folks to close them.  Definitely don’t have that on your mind when you meet.  Remember, these are pros, and they can see you coming a mile away!

Just be real, ask your questions, and use the info they give you to ingratiate yourself to the contacts you approach later on.
